"Parents based in north London seeks an extraordinary and experienced instructor to guide their smallest child on his early path to becoming an British gentleman."
When reading this post, you might easily overlook the term "beginning" as mere a turn of phrase.
However, it might be the crucial part of this distinctive position posting, as it attempts to recruit a mentor for a 12-month-old.
Many of applications have since been submitted since the unidentified family published their search for the highly paid tutor, who must be "a uniquely qualified person".
Over the last few weeks, the listing has gained interest throughout the press, with numerous asking why?
Forward-Thinking Method
A tutoring expert, head and founder of an education consultancy, which is supporting the family in their hunt, explained that despite initial skepticism, he viewed the plan "far sighted", and "progressive".
When he consulted the family, he noted they understood the unconventional character of their requirement, and how young their son is.
However, they clarified that they "preferred not to postpone any longer" to engage a tutor, as they had held off until their older child was five, and by that point "cultural bias had already become established".
What precisely did the family mean by "cultural predisposition"?
It's "all-encompassing", the expert replied. "The way you eat, the way you speak".
He stated the elder child had adopted "really subtle, unspoken signals" from the family, and had taken on their cultural norms. The family informed the consultant they wished to avoid the same situation to happen again with their new baby.
The plan: To hire a British tutor, who needs to speak with Received Pronunciation, to shape the baby from the very start.
Natural Absorption
"A great deal of the education at the beginning here is rather absorbed naturally," stated the expert.
It's through this osmosis that the family are aiming the child will pick up the UK customs they want to cultivate.
He said the tutor needed to be an individual who went to "prestigious academies – similar types of schools as the family aspire to send their son to".
"The educator must be the suitable individual, they'll be doing things they may not realize they're doing, effortlessly," he said.
Money No Object
The family told him the successful candidate should ideally also have familiarity of or passion in horse riding, winter sports, the arts and musical activities so as to shape the child in a diverse set of interests.
More than that though, he said the family wanted the tutor to register the child on a selection of lessons so the child would be "horseback riding and starting an tool by the time they are approximately three years old".
In the family's minds, assisting their son grow into a "English gentleman" will result in achievement and open doors.
"For all the advantages and disadvantages of that, because it's definitely a social class indicator," he adds.
However, notwithstanding all this tutelage in "UK identity", would the child pick up alleged cultural influence from the international family he resides with in any case?
"Yes", replied he. "They know this might not succeed, but they've merely embraced the view of, 'let's give it a go and we'll proceed as early as we can', because the cost of it is not relevant," he stated.
Impractical
A number of in the tutoring industry who have these doubts.
Peter Cui, head and founder of a tutoring service, who supplies individual instructors, wrote that "the journey of embracing two identities, or actually, forming one's identity, is something that must be grown into, not designed."
The expert wrote that he had moved from Asia to the United Kingdom at the age of childhood, and had been educated knowing and embodying two backgrounds. He progressed to learn at a prestigious UK institution.
"The idea that an individual can act as a representation of Britishness, a person who can somehow transfer the attributes of a UK sophisticate to a infant child, appears naive and unrealistic," he wrote.
"From my perspective, employing a distinctly English tutor from infancy will will not automatically produce the outcome they want.
"I wasn't provided with such a tutor, and nevertheless I have been fortunate enough to enjoy many of the experiences they aspire for their son."
He stated: "The fact is, personal identity should not be imposed from the external environment; it must be selected, and it must be internally driven."
Purchasing UK Culture
Naturally, English culture is something the expert thinks can be instructed – and commercialized.
"I think the reality that the world views us in this light is something that we should be cherishing|valuing|appreciating
