Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extended clash that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s best postseason performance since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
