Resurgent Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular outbursts on court had led observers to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

The opponent defended four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
